Is My Auto Insurance Claim Information Shared with Other Companies?
Yes. If you switch insurance companies, your new insurance company will order a special report which includes your entire driving history. Everything from the amount of accidents you were involved in, who was at-fault, how much was paid out, what car you were driving at the time are on this report. Some people think that my switching their insurance company their new insurance company will not know -but as you can see this is not true.
It is possible, however, that if you had a recent accident and change insurance companies that your new insurance company will not know. Why? Because the accident reports are not updated everyday but usually every few months. However, you do not want to take this risk because once the accident report is updated and your new insurance company finds out it is going to be trouble for you. And by trouble we mean that you will probably be non-renewed or worse, charged with insurance fraud.
So if you have accidents and are looking to pull a fast one on a new insurance company it is highly recommended that you do not as they will find out. It is a good idea to shop around and compare rates if you do have many accidents to make sure you are getting the lowest possible price.
