Illinois drivers are required to have two types of auto insurance coverages before they are permitted to drive. These two types are are bodily injury liability and property damage liability.

Bodily injury covers your financial obligation to pay for the injuries of a third party that you injure in an an automobile accident. Bodily injury liability coverage for bodily injury per person is set at $20,000, and the minimum for bodily injury per accident is $40,000.

Property damage liability pays for your financial obligation for the damage you caused in a car accident to a third party’s property. The minimum required for property damage liability is $15,000.
