Does an Accident in a Company Vehicle Affect My Insurance?

Insurance companies charge you based on the risk you present to them. Therefore, regardless of which vehicle you are in, if you are found at-fault for an accident that accident will be rated against you. So in short, yes an accident even in a company vehicle will affect your car insurance. But wait one second, all hope is not lost.

You see if you are driving a company vehicle than your company is the one that is insuring the vehicle. If you have your own personal car with your own insurance company, your own insurance company cannot rate or charge you for the accident that is all ready being rated by the insurance company that your company car is insured with.

It sounds complicated, but it really isn’t. I’ve put together a little diagram to help illustrate better which insurance company will rate you for the accident.

Keep in mind that your personal insurance company will want proof that your accident is being charged by another company, in which case they will ask for a “claims letter” from that company or even call them to confirm that the accident is being rated for.
