With The Dark Knight Rises hitting theatres this weekend, we thought it would be fun to calculate how much Batman's modified batmobile known as the "Tumbler Batmobile" would cost to insure. Obviously, money isn't an issue for Bruce Wayne who is worth an estimated $6.5 billion but how much is he paying to insure that batmobile and what kind of coverage does he have? In an effort to get more electric vehicles off the showroom floor, Honda is offering customers free insurance coverage for anyone that buys a brand new Fit EV. Remember insurance companies base their rates on probabilities and it is difficult to get an…

The short answer is yes. But it's actually not as bad as one would think. A study released by the Consumer Federation of America (CFA) found that good drivers, those with no accidents or tickets, were being overcharged by the major insurance companies. The study which looked at two types of drivers from 15 cities living in medium income territories found that over half their quotes were over $1,000 and a third of the quotes were over $1,500. The CFA used the online rating tools found on insurer's websites to compare quotes. CFA, Commissioner J. Robert Hunter, was understandably upset, saying, "Our research suggests that most rates charged moderate-income drivers are neither fair nor affordable." He recommends that insurance companies should standardize their rates. Here's my take. Insurance companies charge…

It's an age old debate, who are better drivers men or women? Since traditionally "cars" are seen as a "guy thing" many people believe that men are the superior sex when it comes to driving. However, contrary to popular belief, women drivers actually pay cheaper car insurance premiums. Does this mean that women are in fact not only the better smelling sex, but also better drivers? Why do women drivers pay cheaper car insurance? Insurance companies have discovered that women tend to get into less severe accidents than males. "Less severe" accidents means that the the insurance company pays out a lower amount per claim. As a result, insurance companies charge women drivers less than they would male drivers as they can pass the savings on to them. What about…
